Stone Panel Construction

Stone panels are composite wall panels made up of a thin, natural stone veneer reinforced with an aluminum honeycomb backing. The stone veneer can be almost any stone, including granite, marble, limestone, slate or sandstone.

Combing the aerospace technology of aluminum honeycomb construction with the timeless beauty of stone veneers creates a product that is lightweight, incredibly strong, and lower in cost than solid granite. Stone panels weight only 3.3 lbs./ sq. ft. (16 kg/sq. m.) and weigh 80% less than solid stone. They resist 60 times the force of impact than solid 3 cm thick granite. Unlike solid stone, these aluminum honeycomb-reinforced panels keep the beauty of natural stone and eliminate its fragile, brittle properties.

Stone panels are impervious to water penetration even with open structured stones such as travertine, Indiana limestone, and French limestone. The fiberglass reinforced epoxy skin directly behind the stone provides a waterproof barrier. Stress-relieved stone creates stability and eliminates over 35 years and contributes to LEED points/green qualifications.

The Stone veneer has four layers:

  • Natural stone facing, aluminum honeycomb, fiber and reinforced epoxy skin

  • Impervious high-strength fiber-reinforced epoxy skin

The natural stone veneer bonded by high-strength epoxy impregnated glass fiber to aluminum honeycomb reinforcing. Marbles, granites, limestone, sandstones and dolomites are all available.
